Anamosa, Iowa is nestled near the Wapsipinicon River in Jones County.  Anamosa is the Jones County Seat. Anamosa has a population of 5,533.

Anamosa is home to one of the most beautiful state parks along the Wapsipinicon River.

Anamosa offers an abundance of recreation opportunities including walking, fishing, golfing, skating and biking by way of our many beautiful community parks and the Wapsi River.

Our community is adorned with wonderful architecture, which homeowners and shopkeepers take pride in keeping beautiful.

Downtown Assessment Report

The above report is the compiled findings and recommendations of the five person assessment team sent by the Iowa Economic Development Authority, at the request of the Anamosa City Council. The assessment team toured Anamosa and met with numerous community members over the duration of their visit from November 19 - 21, 2019.

City Council Vacancy

The Anamosa City Council currently has a vacancy. The Anamosa City Council plans to fill the vacancy by appointment at the regular City Council meeting which is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 27th at the City Hall Council Chambers (107 S. Ford Street, Anamosa, IA). The appointed person will fill the vacancy until the special election set for March 3rd, 2020. The public has a right to petition the appointment. A petition must be filed within 14 days after the appointment is made and include signatures of eligible electors of the City equaling at least 15% of the voters who voted in the preceding regular election. 

The Anamosa City Council would like to invite those interested in filling the vacant seat to submit a letter of interest by 12:00 p.m. (Noon) Friday, January 24th to City Hall (107 S. Ford Street, Anamosa, IA) or by email to vacancy@anamosa-ia.org.

Special Election - March 3rd, 2020

Even though the vacancy will be temporarily filled by an appointment, the vacancy will ultimately be filled by a special election on March 3rd, 2020. Anyone interested in running for the vacant council seat will need to complete the forms below and turn them into the Jones County Auditor by 5:00 p.m.on Friday, February 7th.
